The Sunday Telegraph: Phoebe Casts a Spell on US

Phoebe Tonkin has come a long way from pulling beers in a Sydney pub.

Feted as one of Hollywood’s hottest young talents, Phoebe is currently starring as a teen witch in the hit American TV series, The Secret Circle.

But the 22-year-old is keeping life “real”, living in an apartment with a girlfriend and driving a rented car. “I’m hardly living the high life, I’m still renting my car from Rent-A-Wreck in LA,” said Tonkin, home for the New Year’s break. “I was working in a pub in Mosman for like seven months, so anything is better than that.”

Tonkin moved to the US early last year after appearing in big budget Aussie film, Tomorrow, When the War Began, and quickly landed her gig on The Secret Circle, playing a teenage witch in the series created by the team behind The Vampire Diaries and Dawson’s Creek.

She will be on the big screen this year in Bait, a 3D thriller about a pack of tiger sharks hunting humans.

She recently was featured on Hollywood bible Variety’s list of new faces to watch and also listed as a star on the rise by America’s E Channel.
