The Sunday Telegraph: Unzipped – Phoebe Tonkin has a Hit TV Show in the US but Admits the Fashion Crowd Still Intimidates Her

DESPITE perfect cheekbones and a hit TV show in the US, Aussie actress, Phoebe Tonkin admits she still feels intimated by the fashion crowd.

“You sit in the front row and everyone has amazing outfits on and I feel self conscious,” she said.

The 25-year-old actress plays a half-vampire on popular supernatural series The Originals — and recently flew to New York to support Dion Lee at the spring collections.

As one of the best dressed It-girls on the international circuit, Tonkin has millions of fans but admits living abroad can be tough.

She feels lucky to have fellow Aussie actress Teresa Palmer on speed dial.

“We have been best friends for a few years,” Tonkin said.

“She’s a rock and she’s always there for me. Theresa is a really incredible woman and I’m blessed she is in my life.”

Based in Atlanta, Tonkin rarely opens up about former co-star and beau, Paul Wesley. Clearly smitten, she can’t wait to have kids.

“I think I’m more excited about having a family than the white wedding,” she said. “I’m more about the soccer mum situation. Watching my friends get married looks so stressful.”

Tonkin has just wrapped a feature film set on the Isle of Man. While it won’t be released until next year, Tonkin admits she loves high-impact roles.

“It’s been witches, mermaids, vampires and werewolves,” she explained. “I’m lanky and awkward and have to I do a lot of stunts where I have to kick and punch.”

This year Tonkin is putting her weight behind the Cambodian Children’s Trust #100kidsByXmas.
