Major girl crush.
It’s no secret that Australia breeds some of the most stylish (and incredibly talented) women in the world—Margaret Zhang, Margot Robbie and Lara Worthington are always on our style radar. So there’s nothing more we love than to fly our Australian flag high and to appreciate our local talent. In a recent interview, we spoke to model and actress Phoebe Tonkin about her personal style, and broke down her go-to outfits and wardrobe favourites.
While Tonkin demonstrates a love for homegrown Australian designers (and loves her bikinis), there’s certainly a French vibe we picked up from her, consisting of a love for French designers and cult French classics. And it’s not just style, as her beauty regime remains simple and effortless, too. In a separate interview with Byrdie, Tonkin reveals she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup and confessed that the majority of the time her beauty preparations consist of simply grabbing a hairbrush.
WHO WHAT WEAR AUSTRALIA: Who are your favourite Australian designers?
PHOEBE TONKIN: I love Bassike, Matteau bikinis, and Christopher Esber.
WWW: What are three wardrobe items you can’t live without?
PT: Frame jeans, an Agnès B. white t-shirt, and a good black bikini.
For a night out with my girlfriends, I would definitely wear a pair of Chanel ballet flats, jeans and an Isabel Marant blouse.
WWW: What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received and who was it from?
PT: My best friend Ilona Hamer is so incredibly stylish and she’s really inspired me to not give into trends. I’ve been inspired by her to wear a really good pair of jeans, a silk shirt, and beautiful jewellery.
Jewellery is something I’ve loved collecting. As you get older your jewellery collection grows and everything means something, whether it came from your ex-boyfriend, your boyfriend, or your mum handed something down to you.
WWW: If you weren’t an actress, what would you be doing?
PT: I would like to be working at a magazine, something creative.
WWW: Something like being a stylist?
PT: I’d leave that to my very stylish friends, but like a creative director I think!
