Headlining the gala is the exhibition ‘Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse.’, a blockbuster retrospective which celebrates the creative force that was Lee Alexander McQueen, and puts a new perspective on the late designer’s work by pairing his designs with artworks, sculptures, photography, drawings and decorative art.

Travelling to Melbourne to attend the NGV’s annual gala, and take in the monumental exhibition, actress Phoebe Tonkin looked to Tiffany & Co. to adorn her for the occasion. Given the luxury jeweller’s long-standing reputation for honouring the importance of both artistry and craftsmanship, and creating its pieces with time-honoured techniques and modern innovations, Phoebe Tonkin’s wear of the house’s jewellery pieces to a gala which too reflects an intersection between incredible technical skill and the avantgarde was a natural choice.

Here, Phoebe Tonkin invites us to get ready with her ahead of the 2022 NGV Gala, and shares details of her look, from the local designer behind her gown to the exquisite Tiffany & Co. pieces she selected for the unforgettable evening.

The base to any memorable look is the beauty. For the NGV Gala, Tonkin wanted something simple, yet striking: “I wanted to go with a vampy, but classic, look.” The actor, along with her make-up artist, focused on creating a clean, glowing complexion, and bringing a little drama with a bold, merlot-hued lip.

Not only was the beauty look in line with Tonkin’s typically understated, yet chic, aesthetic, it allowed for the Tiffany & Co. jewellery she wore to the gala to truly shine. “I just wanted to keep it timeless so that the focus could be on the jewels, but how could you not look at these jewels? They’re so beautiful!”

Tonkin looked to Tiffany & Co.’s Victoria Collection for her sparkle for the evening. She selected two diamond necklaces, a cluster tennis bracelet crafted from platinum and encrusted with white diamonds, and complimenting cluster earrings.

Perfectly completing her look was a black gown designed by one of Australia’s most beloved fashion talents, Christopher Esber. A classic slip silhouette with a cowl neckline, a little edge was introduced to the look with a touch of sheer.
