The pilot is told from the perspective of Elijah. Elijah follows his brother back to New Orleans only to find Hayley is pregnant. She is looking to find her family but is being held by a witch called Sophie who wants to use her to persuade Klaus to help the witches get rid of Marcel. Elijah has to persuade Klaus to accept his child but he is only bothered about his former protege. In the end, he realises he will need family and accepts he is going to become a father. He decides to try and take back the city which he feels belongs to him. He later daggers Elijah to keep him out of his business. Rebekah refuses to go back to New Orleans.

Rebekah returns to New Orleans in search of Elijah, and meets Hayley, who gives her some unexpected news. Concerned that her brother Klaus is up to no good, Rebekah seeks help from a reluctant Sophie. Hayley decides to get rid of the baby, but is attacked by Marcel's vampires. Determined to uncover Marcel’s secret weapon, Klaus stays one step ahead and executes his plan using Camille. After a run-in with Marcel, Rebekah is reminded of all the anger and disappointment Klaus has caused her throughout the years. Finally, Marcel enlists the powerful Davina ’s help in his own dangerous plan.

After discovering interesting news about someone in Marcel's inner circle, Klaus and Rebekah come together to attempt to unravel Marcel's empire and save Elijah in the process, but Klaus soon develops his own plan. They enlist help from Sophie, who is reluctant to get involved for fear of the wrath of Marcel's secret weapon, Davina. Rebekah sneakily invites an oblivious Camille to a huge vampire party thrown by Marcel, managing to anger Marcel in the process. Elsewhere, Hayley learns from the witch Sabine that the supernatural creatures of New Orleans are reacting to the potential existence of a hybrid baby.

With the annual Dauphine Street music festival around the corner, Davina, itching for a night out, convinces Marcel to let her attend. Marcel cautiously obliges but asks Camille to keep a watchful eye on Davina. Agnes convinces Hayley to visit a mysterious doctor in the bayou where she makes a shocking discovery. Meanwhile, Klaus takes a special interest in Cami, who reveals some alarming information about her past, and a determined Rebekah is on a mission to get to the bottom of a recent strange encounter involving Elijah.

Angered by recent events involving the safety of his unborn baby, Klaus demands answers from Sophie, believing she was involved. Sophie reveals to Klaus and Rebekah a troubling secret from her past that her coven would conduct a ritual known as the Harvest where four young witches (one of which was Sophia's cousin as well as Davina) would be ritually killed with their throats cut and their power to be transformed to the earth and their bodies resurrected. Meanwhile, Marcel asks Klaus to accompany him to the bayou after gruesome remains of witches who attacked Hayley are discovered, while Rebekah, Sophie and Hayley set off on a mission of their own to find the witches origins. Elsewhere, Davina confides in an unexpected ally and reveals shocking information about the witches, ultimately leading to a disturbing revelation.

When Klaus discovers Hayley’s life is being threatened, he goes to extreme lengths to protect her and their unborn baby. Having a difficult time dealing with the tragic events of her past, Camille turns to Father Kieran for guidance. Feeling as though he can trust no one, Marcel visits an old friend to seek out some advice, while Davina takes steps to learn how to control her magic. Finally, Klaus delivers some surprising news to Father Kieran.

Meanwhile, Davina makes a surprising connection, and Marcel makes Rebekah an enticing offer that leaves her torn.

Rebekah tells that she doesn't want the baby to be a hybrid producing machine. Elijah struggles with the consequences of a recent fallout with Klaus. Hayley remains by his side but is soon drawn away by a mysterious figure who sheds some light on her past. Meanwhile, a frustrated Camille struggles to make sense of a cryptic message she’s come across. Finally, when an unsuspecting Marcel uncovers some upsetting information involving Klaus, a confrontation ends in a surprising twist.

When she learns that Davina is free, Sophie Deveraux asks Hayley for help, to find Celeste's (Elijah's old love interest) graveyard so she could absorb her essence and used it for important reasons. When Davina confronts Klaus, Rebekah helps Davina and tries to prove her trust. Rebekah plans ahead and starts to create new friendships so she could take over the city. Meanwhile, Sophie finds Celeste's grave and Elijah realizes the danger Davina was talking about.

Alfons Delgado also known as "Papa Tunde" – a powerful warlock who had issues with The Originals in the past, returns to New Orleans and confronts them. He attacks Rebekah and desiccates her to channel her energy. Upon his return, Marcel reveals to Cami how Klaus tortured Tunde before killing him. Elijah, who is worried about Rebekah goes after her traces and Hayley accompanies him. He finds her lying on the floor inside Tunde's spell circle but he can't get into it to save her. He learns from Sophie that the only way to save Rebekah is by breaking the spell with Hayley's blood (from the baby who is one-quarter a witch). Meanwhile, it is revealed that Marcel was the one who brought Tunde in the city a few years ago in order to defeat Klaus. Tunde kills the imprisoned vampires under Klaus' mansion and later sacrifices himself to Celeste (Sabine) in order to give her the power to defeat Klaus.

Still angered, Marcel refuses to help Niklaus when a gruesome discovery is made. Rebekah is taken back when she discovers the remnants of a sacrifice down by the docks, coming to the conclusion that it's the work of a fearsome warlock from their distant past. When Elijah receives information that Rebekah is in danger, he and Hayley set off to find her. Camille, while confronting Marcel, learns details of his dark and tragic past, but they are cut short and put on-edge when an unexpected visitor intrudes on them. In the climax, Niklaus faces his most powerful foe yet, one that has an unprecedented advantage over him. Whilst, Sophie is stunted for her departure.

Back in 1919, Marcel and Rebekah begin a plan in order to keep their unconditional love forever. Rebekah works as a nurse and befriends the witch Genevieve as well as Clara Summerlin (who happened to be Celeste), and later uses Genevieve to bring back Rebekah's father — Mikael who can kill Klaus. However when Rebekah attacks Genevieve, Clara oversees and Rebekah both infected them with the contagious bloody cloth, leaving them to die desperately. In the present, Genevieve reveals to Klaus about the betrayal of Marcel and Rebekah. Hayley on the other hand is on a mission of her own as she attacks Celeste and is looking for answers. Finally, when Klaus is freed and is on his way to punish Rebekah for her betrayal, Elijah comes in time to save both her and Marcel.

When Klaus' health is restored, he reveals Rebekah's betrayal to Cami about summoning their father long ago. Rebekah and Marcel are on the run and makes a very shocking plan to keep their relationship still. While Elijah makes a settlement about handing one page of her mother's grimoire. Celeste is still confined on Hayley's request to undo the curse on her bloodline until she agreed. In the cemetery, Celeste warns Elijah some ungrateful hearsay until he was infuriated and finally attacks her but it is to no avail.

Since Davina has returned, Marcel hopes to save Rebekah, who is stuck in the Cemetery with Klaus and Elijah because of Celeste's spell. Cami meets Davina, who immediately finds that she visited her with a purpose, which is to reverse the spell over her uncle. Marcel turns to Genevieve in order to save Rebekah's life, which she agrees with the deal to have Davina returned to the witches. Klaus viciously stabs Elijah with Papa Tunde's blade, and later Rebekah with the White Oak Stake, however he doesn't kill her. Instead, Klaus frees Rebekah and leaves her to finally live the life she always wanted. After a farewell with Elijah, Marcel and Hayley, Rebekah finally leaves New Orleans.

After accusing Klaus of doing nothing while their control over the Quarter crumbles, Elijah makes a move to take matters into his own hands. He receives an intriguing offer of support from Francesca, a beautiful woman from a powerful New Orleans family. In an attempt to bring the warring factions of the city together, the Mikaelsons throw an extravagant party, where Klaus offers Jackson a tempting deal, Elijah and Hayley share a dance, and a violent fight comes to a surprising end. Finally, even as Marcel works on a new path to power, he continues to help Camille deal with her Uncle Kieran's tragedy.

Genevieve asks Elijah to allow her coven to publicly celebrate a traditional feast day, where members of the community offer the witches gifts in return for blessings. Monique and Genevieve disagree over what the ancestors want from them, and Genevieve reveals her plan to build the witches' power. When Elijah focuses his attention on restoring their home to its former glory, Klaus accuses him of doing it only to impress Hayley. Next, Klaus sets a new plan in motion by finding Cary, a werewolf from his own line, and sending him off to find a missing piece of family history. Marcel lets Thierry in on his new plan to rebuild his power, but Diego has his own ideas about the future. At the Feast of the Blessings, Monique and Genevieve try to use the ceremony to teach Davina a lesson, but Klaus intervenes and gives Davina a surprisingly important gift. While Hayley struggles to decide where her loyalties should lie, the ceremony explodes into violence.

Desperate to help Kieran, Camille insists on an unconventional treatment, but her good intentions lead Kieran to a violent episode. After Klaus and Elijah disagree over the best way to handle the Crescent Wolves, Elijah makes a trip to the bayou, where he is witness to a horrific explosion that only adds to the hatred and mistrust among the communities. While Jackson and Elijah work to save the wounded, Hayley learns a surprising piece of her family history from Marcel.

Hayley confronts a surprising enemy as she and her unborn baby fall into peril during a celebratory wake to honor a fallen member of the community. In order to save Hayley, Klaus and Elijah enlist the help of Genevieve who struggles to maintain control over Davina and the other young witches. Camille tells Marcel that Francesca is determined to find a mysterious key that may unlock a family secret. Meanwhile, as Klaus suffers from nightmares of his father Mikael, he is forced to examine his troubled relationship with his own adoptive son, Marcel.

The war between Marcel and Klaus has begun with Marcel making the first move. In order to get the upper hand, Klaus asks Genevieve to do the ritual in order to make the werewolf rings, which can help them develop strength and speed. Davina is followed by Mikael, who is on a mission of his own — to get brought back and kill Klaus. Cammie discovers important information about Francesca's bloodline that can change the landscape of the started war. Genevieve weakens Klaus, and while Elijah recovers he discovers that Hayley is missing. Hayley — taken by the witches at the Church, has started entering labour, learns of the witches' intentions about her baby.

Hayley successfully gives birth, but is killed by the witches right after, with Klaus witnessing them getting his baby. Davina has brought back Mikael and uses him as her secret weapon, locked in the same place she was. As Elijah and Klaus try to find the witches, Hayley returns — now needing blood from her daughter to survive and transitioning into a hybrid. Marcel comes just in time when Monique is on her way to kill the baby and kills Monique. Meanwhile Hayley kills Genevieve even if the latter try to apologize for her actions. After his daughter is saved by Marcel, Klaus saves his life and the two reconcile their friendship. Klaus later comes with the idea of proclaiming his daughter dead, in order to save her, while giving her to someone who can care about her — his sister, Rebekah. He tells her to go away and to find a witch to perform a cloaking spell to protect them. In the end, we see the fourth harvest girl putting a rose on Esther's grave and a boy with her who calls her mother. They quietly walk away from the cemetery.

Esther (in Cassie's body) — the mother of Klaus and Elijah is revealed to be the witch that has returned in the season one finale, alongside their two brothers — Finn (in Griffith's body) and Kol (in Kaleb's body). Klaus, in search of the White Oak Stake, prepares for a battle with the werewolves in order to get the moonlight rings from them. Not knowing that the Stake is in his father — Mikael's possession — Klaus is able to get the moonlight rings when Elijah and Marcel kill the werewolves while Hayley brutally kills Francesca. Both Finn and Kol use Davina and Camille to know what their brothers are up to, while Esther plans ahead.

Ever since she killed Francesca, Hayley has changed, and Elijah suggests to Klaus to help her out. Esther moves on with her plan, as she has started making more moonlight rings to lost werewolves. Per order by Esther, Davina is attacked by a group of werewolves, and has to call for Mikael's help. Just when Elijah and Marcel arrive, they find the secret that Davina has been hiding. Hayley has her wolf pack in Klaus and Elijah's house, while Klaus has a meeting with Esther. In the end, when Esther asks Kol how Davina managed to kill all of the werewolves, Kol doesn't mention Mikael's return.

Klaus and Elijah receive a dinner invitation from their mother. Elijah visits Marcel to find a witch named Lenora who can help them identify into whose body Esther jumps next,unfortunately,Vincent/Finn has her abducted. Vincent/Finn arrives the dinner and tries to know why his younger siblings had him daggered in a coffin for 900 years. It is revealed in the course of their meal that the necklace which Esther gifted Klaus wasn't meant to protect him but to weaken him in order not break his werewolf curse. After this revelation,Esther jumps out of teenaged Cassie and The spell Lenora casts falls on her and she is Identified as Esther through a mark. She tells her sons she wants to heal and not to harm,and give them a new life and she vanishes in a mysterious way. Haley admits later on that she is tempted by the offer and accuses Elijah of not being caring. Elijah agrees to help Gia which is a big advantage to the other vampires including Marcel. Esther and Finn discuss plans to make their family whole again.

Knowing that it's only a matter of time before Klaus comes after them, Davina hides with Mikael in her family cabin in the woods. When Hayley gets a tip that Vincent/Finn is recruiting young, unsuspecting teenagers in order to build a werewolf army, she enlists the help of Elijah, Marcel and Gia to rescue the group. After Cami inadvertently lets Klaus in on Davina's whereabouts, she tags along in an attempt to truly understand the deeply rooted hatred he has for his parents. At his mother's urging, Kaleb/Kol seeks out Davina in order to locate the missing White Oak Stake and is caught off guard when he has a dangerous encounter at the cabin.Josh, who continues to struggle with his vampire identity, opens up to an unexpected ally. Lastly, Elijah is caught and kidnapped by Esther.

In order to show Elijah that her plan is what's best for him, Esther forces him to relive a time long ago when he loved a young woman named Tatia, Amara's doppelganger (guest star Nina Dobrev). With the help of Marcel and Gia, Hayley is determined to find Elijah, who has gone missing but is torn when she discovers that Klaus is also in trouble. Elsewhere, Cami finds herself in a dangerous situation when Mikael takes her hostage as a way to lure Klaus to him, and Davina finds out who Kaleb really is. Lastly, a violent confrontation ensues when Klaus comes face-to-face with his father.

Fed up with her antics, Klaus becomes agitated and demands that Esther release Elijah, whom she has captured. However, Esther reveals a few dark secrets from Klaus' past in an attempt to make him an offer he can't refuse. Meanwhile, Oliver ends up in a dangerous situation, prompting Hayley to reconnect with Jackson, who has been living a new life out in the bayou. Elsewhere, Cami, who still believes baby Hope's death was her fault, teams up with Marcel and Gia after she becomes suspicious of her faculty advisor Vincent/Finn. Lastly, in a surprising turn of events, Klaus comes face-to-face with his true father who came back from the dead. In flashbacks to Esther's past we see why she wanted to kill Klaus' daughter Hope.

When Klaus discovers that Elijah has been afflicted by Esther's magic, he heads to the bayou in search of an antidote, but quickly realizes he's not alone. His father helps him with finding cure for his brother and also tells his son he knows that Hope is still alive so Klaus kills him to protect her. Armed with intel gathered by Aiden, Hayley teams up with him Marcel, Cami and Josh and launches a plan to take down Vincent/Finn by exploating his weakness, in a surprising turns of events Jackson helps them. Meanwhile, with Esther determined to carry out her plan vincent/Finn and Kaleb/Kol are forced to reconsider their own strategies. Intrigued by Davina's unwavering attempts to create an unlinking spell, Kaleb/Kol lets her in on some secrets from his past and brings her to a place he frequented in 1914. Lastly, Vincent/Finn and Kaleb/Kol are being kidnapped by Hayley and Marcel. Elijah wakes up.

Rebekah, who was spent months away living a normal life with baby Hope, finds herself on the run when she realizes that Esther found them. Convinced that Vincent/Finn and Kaleb/Kol would be powerful allies in his fight to take down Esther, Klaus sets a plan in motion to turn his brothers against their mother. Meanwhile, Hayley is conflicted when she and Jackson stumble upon an ancient ritual that would get their werewolf packs out from under Esther's control, but would require her to make a tremendous sacrifice. The ritual is about Hayley and Jackson getting married so that their packs can have Hayley's hybrid powers. Elsewhere, Rebekah is meeting with Elijah and is concerned when she notices something is off with him. Finally, Davina takes matters into her own hands by turning to dark magic so she can poison Klaus, and Cami finds out that Esther prepared her body for Rebekah to jump into it. Lastly, we see Klaus talking with Rebekah about Elijah and then he and Hayley are going to see their daughter.

In 1914, Kol was dating a witch called Mary Alice Claire, and taught her and her friend Astrid dark magic to use against his family using a magical object. When his family found out he was betraying them, they stole the object, put Kol in a coffin when Rebekah found him trying to get it back and locked Mary and Astrid in a house used by the coven to place insane witches. In present day, Kol wants Davina's help to get the object back. Hayley and Klaus find their daughter and spend time with her. Hayley and Elijah make love. Kol kisses Davina. They make a plan to stop Esther with Kol which involves making her think Rebekah wants to switch bodies. Davina tries to stop Esther using Cami's body (chosen by Finn) and place her in the body of another (chosen by Kol). Rebekah makes Esther a vampire, but finds Kol hasn't forgiven her in helping to stop him steal the object and betrays her by placing her soul in the body of a witch.

Finn puts a spell on the compound, trapping wolves and vampires. Klaus takes Cami to the safe house, then confronts Kol about Rebekah's whereabouts. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that the ghost who talked to Rebecca is Freya.

Finn captures his brother's spirits, while the vampires remain trapped and their hunger grows.

Rebekah becomes interested in a girl. Hayley struggles with coming clean and is surprised by something Jackson admits. Klaus learns something and heads to confront Hayley. Vincent sets his eyes on Marcel for answers to what Klaus is hiding.

Alpha werewolves have come to join Jackson's pack, so that the power from the marriage to Hayley will also spread to them and their packs. Freya finds Finn, who has sent Marcel and Kol to collect the blood of Hayley and Klaus which will help him locate the "miracle baby" which he believes is still alive and is the big secret Klaus is keeping. However, Marcel is busy trying to keep his vampires from feeding on the Alphas and once again, Kol changes sides and helps Klaus in hope that he and his other siblings will trust him. Meanwhile Finn has arrived at the house where Elijah, Cami and Hope have been staying. He stumbles upon Elijah and stakes him before searching for the baby. Kol and Rebekah channel Klaus, to overload Finn with magic. Elijah wakes up moments later and goes after Finn, determined to save Hope. Finn is overloaded with magic and loses his extra power before Elijah makes the house (which is filled with gas) explode. The episode ends with a glimpse at baby Hope, alluding to her possible powers.

Cami rushes away from the house and stops at a payphone where Elijah meets her and Hope. Klaus offers his house for the location of Jackson and Hayley's wedding. Just before the wedding Elijah and Cami arrive at the house and Hope is reunited with her parents. Hayley doesn't want Elijah to change her mind about the wedding and she goes on to marry Jackson. During the reception, Klaus makes a toast inviting the newly weds to live in the house. Elijah thinks that Klaus dislikes Jackson as he will end up being a better father figure than he is, and Klaus thinks Elijah wants Jackson dead because he is in love with Hayley. Elijah tells Hayley he may move out. Meanwhile, Aiden and Josh are comfortable together and Kol and Devina complete the dagger they have been working on and Freya raises Finn back from the dead. The episode ends with Elijah, Rebekah, Klaus and Davina surrounding Kol as he dies, and Rebekah promising to resurrect him.

Rebekah aligns with Marcel when she encounters a coven of vengeful witches and discovers the body she is currently inhabiting has a checkered past. Elijah contacts a respected elder witch to help Rebekah. Meanwhile, Klaus clashes with Hayley and Jackson over how to protect baby Hope from Finn; and Freya convinces Finn to bring her to Mikael, the father she hasn't seen in over a thousand years.

Klaus invites Freya to the compound to gain more insight into her past with Dahlia; Rebekah begins to realize the body she is inhabiting is trying to regain control; Jackson becomes frustrated when Aiden questions his leadership skills; Marcel turns to Vincent for help to save Rebekah.

Eva Sinclair's reemergence leaves Rebekah trapped, so Klaus puts aside his mistrust for Freya to save Rebekah's life. Meanwhile, Hayley and Elijah learn more about Eva's violent past; and Marcel turns to Vincent for help to take down Eva, but his plan takes an unexpected turn.

Klaus comes face-to-face with a deadly threat when he tries to vanquish Dahlia. Meanwhile, Elijah and Marcel prepare a safe house in Algiers with help from Josephine; Jackson approaches Hayley with a risky idea; and Aiden becomes torn between his loyalty to Jackson and his secret alliance with Klaus.

Dahlia gives Klaus and Hayley a deadline for turning over baby Hope, and they each devise dangerous plans in their fight against her. Meanwhile, Freya gives Rebekah and Elijah an ultimatum; and Marcel considers how to best deal with Klaus' erratic behavior.

Dahlia reveals to Klaus some startling details about baby Hope and makes him an enticing proposition. Meanwhile, Elijah and Freya come up with opposing ideas on how to handle Dahlia's looming deadline; Vincent approaches Davina with an intriguing offer; and Hayley makes a difficult decision about her and Hope's future.

Klaus vows revenge when he learns he's been betrayed by his own siblings; Elijah, Rebekah and Freya try to take down Dahlia; Hayley tries to escape through the flooded bayou; Davina considers an offer that would bring back Kol; Marcel faces a new threat.

Season 2 ends with tensions between the Mikaelson siblings coming to a head. Meanwhile, Elijah and Rebekah reconsider their plan of attack against Dahlia; Davina gets a step closer to fulfilling her promise to Kol; and Vincent is torn between prospects of a magic-free life away from New Orleans and a personal obligation to protect Davina.

Klaus's family has yet to forgive Klaus's actions. Klaus's old friend decides to show up and show him Chaos. While Elijah tries to hunt werewolves down to protect Hayley leaving Freya on nanny duty. Meanwhile Marcel's has organized another vampire community, while Davina is learning to control the coven as their leader only to find it's not as easy as it looks and seeks help from Hayley.

After discovering that poachers have begun taking out werewolves in the bayou, Elijah and Jackson grow concerned for Hayley's safety when she fails to show up during the full moon. Meanwhile, Davina, the only one with the answer to Hayley's whereabouts, plots ways to use that to her advantage. Elsewhere, Cami approaches Klaus with her theory on who is behind the series of murders in the French Quarter, while Lucien delivers to Elijah an unsettling warning about the war brewing among the sire lines. Finally, after receiving a dire prophecy about the future of the Mikaelson siblings, Klaus takes extreme measures to determine the validity of this potential impending threat.

Klaus seeks to take revenge for the taking of his baby, Hope, by Hayley and Jackson whom Elijah also seem to be against Klaus. Meanwhile Davina tries to lead her coven, and seeks help from Freya to bring Kol back. Hope is kidnapped, meanwhile Klaus is hostage at the attic.

In order to uncover what his old acquaintance, Tristan, is really doing in New Orleans, Elijah considers attending a formal gala thrown by a mysterious secret society made up of a group of ancient vampires known as The Strix, while Hayley invites herself to attend with him. Marcel is invited to the gala by Aya Al-Rashid, the emissary to the Strix with the opportunity to join the secret society.

As the war among the sire lines continues to grow, Klaus receives an unexpected visit by a figure from his past. When Elijah suspects that Tristan is hiding something, he enlists Marcel's help to find out what he's up to. Elsewhere, Davina struggles with her role as Regent and seeks advice from Hayley. Finally, an ancient secret that is uncovered threatens to tear the Mikaelson brothers apart for good. Leah Pipes and Yusuf Gatewood also star.

When Elijah and Freya realize that Rebekah may be the target of The Strix's latest plan, they do whatever it takes to protect her. Klaus spends time with Aurora to figure out where her loyalties lie, while a dangerous run-in with a member of The Strix leads Hayley and Marcel to make an unsettling discovery.

Klaus and Elijah plan a Thanksgiving gathering at the compound in hopes of negotiating a truce between them and the Strix. Meanwhile, Vincent and Marcel realize Davina might be in over her head in dealing with her coven and decide to take matters into their own hands. Also, Camille encounters a new threat when she has a run-in with Aurora.

After learning that Cami's life is in danger and Aurora may be to blame, Klaus is forced to engage in another one of Aurora's devious games and follow a series of clues she's left behind for him. Meanwhile, Elijah, Freya and Hayley take drastic measures against Tristan when they discover he holds a valuable piece of information they need. Elsewhere, Aya gives Marcel an ultimatum that leaves him with a difficult decision to make, while tensions between Hayley and Jackson cause her to reevaluate her involvement in Mikaelson family matters.

When a dangerous affliction threatens to expose one of her siblings, Freya searches for a way to reverse the crippling curse, even as she finds herself the target of the Strix's latest plan. Elsewhere, Klaus keeps a watchful eye over Cami while she attempts to help Detective Kinney, whose life has begun to spiral out of control as a result of Lucien's compulsion. Meanwhile, a confrontation with Marcel causes Vincent to reevaluate his decision to stay out of witch business, and Hayley's attempt at a quiet Christmas with Jackson and Hope results in an unexpected surprise.

With Camille now in transition to becoming a vampire due to Aurora's compulsion, Klaus declares war on his enemies. Meanwhile, Hayley and Jackson become Tristan's pawns to the Strix leading to an unpleasant confrontation with Elijah and Klaus and it results in the killing of someone close to them.

With the Strix leader, Tristan, locked away and Hayley's husband Jackson dead, the group searches for new leader by hiring a powerful witch, named Ariana, while Hayley deals with her depression and attends Jackson's funeral in the bayou. Klaus deals with the newly turned vampire Camille with her cravings for human blood. Meanwhile, Davina is alone and shunned by her coven as she focuses on bringing Kol Mikaelson back, but the magic she needs is dark which Josh offers to help her. Elsewhere, Elijah reluctantly aligns himself with Aya and Ariana after learning that they may have knowledge of an elusive weapon that could kill an Original vampire for good.

Davina is recruited by Aya to help the Strix witches probe the dead Ariana's mind for information leading to the weapon to kill the original vampires. Meanwhile, Klaus ends up in a standoff with an unlikely foe when a white oak weapon that could destroy the Mikaelsons falls into Camille's hands which she and Vincent offer to bargain to use to their own advantage. Also, Elijah recalls his first meeting with Aya and all about the founding of the Strix and faces off against the group who seek a new leader.

The vengeful Aurora makes her move against Klaus and Elijah by using the captive Freya as bait to lure the originals into dangerous trap. Meanwhile, the Strix new leaders, Marcel and Aya, recruit the powerful coven to perform a spell to assist the closet allies against the Mikaelsons. Also, Davina finds a way to conjure up Kol and there is only one last key ingredient to complete the spell.

The unexpected arrival of Stefan Salvatore in New Orleans, who is on the run from the vampire hunter Rayna, may be the key to helping Freya rescue Klaus and Elijah from a magical trap they are put under. Stefan and Hayley must join forces to rescue Klaus and Elijah from the Strix. Aya tasks Davina with performing a ritual to break the sirelines. The ritual goes awry, and only Klaus' line is broken, leaving Klaus feeling weakened. Klaus buries Aurora for all eternity. Hayley kills Aya, avenging Jackson's death. Davina, having broken Klaus' line, gathers his blood from the ritual, the ash of the dead, and brings Kol back to life.

Klaus learns that, due to his sireline being broken, all of his enemies are coming to attack him. Freya is forced to do a spell that will cloak his location, and he and Hayley leave the city with Hope. Davina worries that Kol may go back to his Ripper ways now that he is a vampire again. Kol finds out that when he was brought back to life, so was Finn.

When rumors begin to spread about the remaining white oak bullet, dangerous foes descend upon New Orleans in an attempt to take down Klaus once and for all. As the threats continue to grow, Elijah urges his siblings to lay low at the compound while Marcel, Vincent and Josh chase down a lead involving a mysterious vampire named Sofya , who may have the answers they're looking for. Meanwhile, tensions inside the compound build as Kol is forced to come face to face with his brother Finn, the person responsible for his death. Elsewhere, Klaus and Hayley seek shelter with her former pack and stumble upon some unsettling news involving the threat against them.

When its discovered that Freya has been kidnapped and is in the hands of a dangerous new threat, the Mikaelson brothers are forced to put aside their differences in order to save her before it's too late. Following a lead that brings them to Mystic Falls, Elijah and Finn run into deputy Matt Donovan, who does not take well to new vampires in his town. Meanwhile, Klaus and Hayley work together to uncover the motive behind one of Lucien's secret agendas, while a troubling shift in Kol's behavior leaves Davina concerned for their future together.

As the city celebrates its annual Jazz Fest, an unlikely team of Mikaelson foes joins forces to take Klaus hostage. On the fifth anniversary of Klaus’ defeat, Marcel is king of the city and welcomes the un-sired vampires to New Orleans, only to find they pose an unexpected threat to his rule, leading him to seek counsel from an unlikely source. Meanwhile, as Hayley closes in on the cure that will allow her to revive Elijah and the slumbering Mikaelsons, she faces a final task that will force her to make a ruthless decision.

Now awake, the Originals plan a mission to rescue Klaus; while Rebekah lures Marcel to the cemetery as a distraction, Elijah, Hayley, Freya and Kol track down Joshua and force him to point out where Marcel is keeping Klaus. In the meantime, Klaus is tormented by Camille's illusion, who is pressing him to find the strength to find a way to escape. Meanwhile, Vincent continues his search for Maxine's son and the search leads him to an abandoned house where Vincent is beset by a powerful blue light that he recognizes as the new threat to both him and other missing children.

With the Mikaelsons hiding out at a plantation on the outskirts of the city, Klaus demands one day to try to connect with his seven-year-old daughter Hope, whom they warmly bond over their stories about Klaus' past. Freya is still keeping the werewolf Keelin captive to make more werewolf antivenom despite Hayley's protests to let her go. Meanwhile, Vincent informs Marcel about the new evil called the Hollow, which a secret coven is abducting children to be used as a ritual sacrifice to bring upon the Hollow's pure form. Vincent also flashes back to years earlier with his wife Eva and how she persuaded him to summon the Hollow.

When Hope is overcome by the Hollow's evil spell, both Klaus and Marcel are forced to ask each other for help to assist Vincent's search for the missing children before they can be sacrificed and the Hollow's power will become invulnerable. Meanwhile, Freya re-captures Keelin and imprisons her at the church tower to further use her for other purposes, which include breaking into Marcel's penthouse to search for a spell instruction to solidify Freya's power. Hayley searches for a potential werewolf to learn more about the Hollow and of its power over Hope.

With both Klaus and Marcel under the influence of the Hollow's power over them, they fight among their personal demons (Mikael and Elijah, respectively) to resist a confrontation where they are persuaded to fight to the death. Sofya tries to keep Marcel contained, as Vincent does the same in his search for a way to fight the Hollow's influence. Meanwhile, both Freya and Keelin continue to bond while working together to help out Klaus before a lethal confrontation begins with him and Marcel.

When they discover that The Hollow has employed a mysterious servant to do its bidding, Klaus and Elijah host an elaborate party at the restored Mikaelson compound in order to lure the new threat out and uncover its identity. Feeling a sense of responsibility for The Hollow's resurgence, Vincent agrees to help Klaus and Elijah in using his magic to help the Mikaelsons root out this latest threat. Meanwhile, after uncovering information about who may have been behind her parents' death, Hayley turns to Freya to help unlock her memories from that fateful day. Freya continues to keep a close eye on Keelin who shows up at the party, as does Sofya who has a quarrel with words with Klaus. Elsewhere, Marcel appears now confined in the same underground prison where he kept Klaus.

Freya places a protection spell on the compound when it's discovered that the Hollow's latest servant is on the loose, but it forces Klaus, Hayley and Hope to remain trapped inside with nowhere to go, as Marcel plots to befriend Hope in order to try to help him escape form his confinement. Meanwhile, Elijah takes matters into his own hands when he forces a reluctant Vincent to perform a dangerous ritual at the cemetery needed to strengthen their defense against the Hollow. Also, Freya enacts a risky plan by using Josh as bait which brings her face to face with their latest threat, but an unexpected twist involving her growing romantic feelings for Keelin leaves Freya's life hanging in the balance.

After being summoned by the witch's ancestors, Hayley and Klaus travel to the ancestral world plane of existence and come face to face with Davina, Klaus' former foe and the one person who claims that she holds the secrets to The Hollow's demise. Meanwhile, Elijah and Marcel are forced into an uneasy alliance where they meet up with Alaric (guest star Matt Davis) who has tracked down a crucial artifact that could help in their fight against The Hollow. But Sofya is one step ahead of them as she plots to steal the artifact for herself and the Hollow's minions.

When The Hollow sends a terrifying message to Vincent, he must team up with Haley and Freya to embark on a desperate mission to stop the Hollow once and for all... even if it requires a heartbreaking sacrifice of Elijah whose life is slowly draining from him due to Sofya staking him with white oak thorns. Refusing to allow anyone in his family to pay the high price of defeating their enemy, Klaus makes a surprising alliance with Marcel and enacts a plan to take down Sofya that threatens to change the Mikaelson family forever.

Klaus requests that his estranged siblings, Rebekah and Kol, return to New Orleans to help him out in his stand against The Hollow which has now re-entered corporeal existence in the form of a young woman. Meanwhile, Freya recruits Hayley for a dangerous task to enter the dead Elijah's mind to repair the broken amulet containing his soul that will put both their lives at risk... but may be the sole means of saving someone they love. When the task proves more difficult then thought, Hope decides to help out Freya and Hayley. Elsewhere, tensions rise when Marcel leads a hunt for The Hollow and putting him on a collision course with the person he was least prepared to face. Also, as Kol continues to mourn the loss of Davina, he is forced to consider the lengths he'd go to see her again when he also comes face to face with the Hollow.

When it's discovered that The Hollow is using a magical totem to fuel her power, Freya enlists Rebekah and Klaus to help locate and destroy it in order to hopefully awaken Elijah. Meanwhile, an ultimatum by The Hollow puts Kol at odds with his own siblings, while an unexpected run-in forces Marcel and Rebekah to confront the growing tension between them. Freya and Hayley manage to track down and arrives at the Hollow's residence only for both of them to fall victim to her power source which leaves Hayley comatose and fighting for her life and seeing visions of her lost husband Jackson who attempts to kill her, while Freya sees visions of Keelin who taunts her.

When The Hollow now targets Hope, the most vulnerable Mikaelson, Klaus is forced to rely on Vincent who believes he can use The Hollow's own dark magic to defeat their enemy for good. Meanwhile, as Marcel worries that Vincent's plan might backfire, he decides on a deadly backup plan of his own by enlisting Sofya, Rebekah, and Elijah to help him make a stand against the evil entity. Elsewhere, after falling victim to The Hollow's manipulations, Hayley struggles to figure out Hope's future in New Orleans, while Freya must confront her own darkest fears; one of which is being in a romantic relationship with Keelin, and the other in figuring out how to save Hope from the Hollow's power.

Not wanting to see her family split up to keep The Hollow from fully possessing Hope, Freya tries to find another way to lock away The Hollow forever. Vincent also warns Hayley that once the ritual is complete, she'll have to keep Hope as far away from the Mikaelsons, as them being close to her will have their piece of the Hollow hunger to take over Hope again. Still after not getting a response from Kol, has Freya considering turning herself into a vampire so the ritual can be completed, but luckily he shows up in time. The ritual is performed and once completed, the siblings part ways. Some time passes and shows Rebekah in New York City, greeted by Marcel, who confesses that he wants to start a life with her and kisses her as proof; Kol in San Francisco getting a large diamond cut before meeting up with Davina; Hayley with Hope in Mystic Falls as she enrolls in the school housed on the Salvatore Mansion grounds, Alaric says that she'll be happy there and that he's happy that like his twins, Hope will no longer have to fear about who she is to the rest of the world. The scene ends in Manosque, France with Elijah playing the piano in a bar. He receives a large tip from a patron, who happens to be Klaus. They exchange acknowledging glances before Klaus walks away and Elijah continues playing.

Desperate to see by her father Klaus after seven years, Hope resorts to drastic measures to bring her father back to New Orleans. Hayley attempts to minimize the fallout from Hope's actions, but not before news of what she's done ripples through the city. Meanwhile, Freya's guilt over not being able to reunite her family gets in the way of her happiness with Keelin, while Rebekah struggles with her inability to fully commit to Marcel. Finally, struggling without Elijah by his side, Klaus's murderous rampage throughout Europe leads to an unexpected encounter.

With the two of them being cloaked, Roman eventually leads Hope to Hayley where he chains up Hope and defends his mother's action. Caroline and Klaus also team up to search for her, and on the way reflect on their past. Meanwhile, Freya and Vincent argue about whether they should tell Declan about Hayley's life, with Vincent being afraid of Declan suffering the same fate as Cami. Vincent keeps quiet after seeing that Declan is related to Cami. Greta visits Antoinette where she convinces Elijah to try to stop Klaus from killing Roman. Hayley eventually agrees to having her werewolf side suppressed, which will cause a beacon so Freya and Vincent can track her. Greta, Elijah, Klaus, and Caroline arrive. Caroline is quickly subdued, Hope ends up passing out from Greta, and Roman stands by and watches as Greta and Hayley duel. Elijah and Klaus manage to take their fight inside the house right as Hayley sacrifices herself to kill Greta.

All of the Mikaelson siblings end up trapped in the Chambre de Chasse as well as Marcel. It is there that they find out they are trapped in a spell with representational magic, each one of them having to find a key to unlock a door. Marcel tells them that Hope is planning to draw The Hollow out of all of their bodies. Kol and Marcel then discover a room that had been gone for over a century, meaning Hope could not have known about its existence. They deduce that it was Freya who cast the spell. She ends up vanishing after advising Klaus to let Hope do the spell. Everyone ends up unlocking the door only to enter Elijah's consciousness. There, everyone escapes and Elijah retains his memories. This results in him leaving Antoinette to mourn Hayley.

After Bill's death, Klaus notices a strange symptom present on Hope. He asks Davina for assistance, who conducts a spell but ends up finding out that Hope's condition will only worsen and will eventually kill her. Freya takes advantage of the Mikaelson reuniting and decides to have her wedding. Freya ends up asking Rebekah to be the maid of honor, Vincent to be the best man, Kol to officiate, and Elijah to walk her down the aisle. Elijah and Vincent turn down the offer. Elijah reminisces about Andrea, a woman he met in France, who was actually Hayley. After reading a letter from her, Elijah and Klaus decide to ask Freya down the aisle together. Meanwhile, Declan finds out about Marcel and threatens him, saying that he will gather the humans in retaliation. Marcel and Declan eventually come to a truce.

To save Hope's life, Klaus takes her to Mystic Falls with Elijah. There he asks Caroline to help him with the power of her daughters. His plan is to carry out the magic from Hope and to put it in his body. Caroline is not happy about Klaus' decision but she accepts to help him, but Alaric disagrees,and he only accepts too when Klaus tells them he wants to kill himself after the spell. Hope faints and meets her mother, who shows her she has found peace. Hope wakes up in her father's arms. At midnight, while Hope is in transition for her first transformation in werewolf, Caroline's daughters complete the spell.

Klaus' attempt to kill himself is interrupted by Hope and he is chained up. He hallucinates Mikael which causes him to break free, and Cami who stops him from killing Hope in time for Elijah to snap his neck. Klaus awakes to find that Elijah has absorbed some of the magic so he can say goodbyes, though he does not want to. Marcel, Rebekah, Elijah, Freya, Keelin reminisce on memories of Klaus as they are join by Kol, then Klaus himself. They have dinner and have a wish burning ceremony where Klaus says his goodbyes to everyone, then to Hope separately. Elijah reveals his plan to die by Klaus' side, having already said his goodbyes, as his life's purpose to redeem Klaus is fulfilled, and he also tells Klaus that whatever lay ahead, they would face it together. They stake each other and begin to turn to ash.
