Phoebe previews Hayley’s revenge, wolf-spooning with Jackson

07 October '15 - Sarah

What is wolf-spooning? Well, it’s one of the few ways that Jackson and Hayley have probably been communicating lately. At least, that’s according to Originals star Phoebe Tonkin.

When Tonkin stopped by the EW offices, we chatted with her about what’s coming up for Hayley in season 3 — Klaus shouldn’t only be worried about the Trinity — and what her time as a wolf has done to her relationship with Jackson.

‘The Originals’ Spoilers – Klaus’ Futures with Hayley & Cami

09 September '15 - Sarah

KLAUS & HAYLEY | If you’re expecting a reconciliation between Hope’s parents in the first half of Season 3, you might want to curb your enthusiasm just a bit. Simply put, Tonkin says that Hayley is still “furious” with Klaus for “this awful thing he’s done to the mother of his child. … She’s missing all these huge milestones in her daughter’s life, and she’s not going to be able to forgive him for that.” The show’s six-month time jump will “show the seriousness of the curse and what Klaus did to her.” Tonkin says it’s “important” for people to understand just how messed up that decision really was, which will greatly inform their first Season 3 confrontation.

HAYLEY & CAMI | Though Tonkin says she loves Hayley and Cami’s scenes together, acknowledging that “the human connection between all of the characters is what makes this supernatural show so relatable,” you probably shouldn’t expect to see too many of them while the curse remains active. As for helping that process to move along more quickly, Pipes admits there’s “not much Cami can do except to shake her finger angrily at Klaus, which has not been so successful in seasons past.”

My Day on a Plate: Phoebe Tonkin

07 September '15 - Sarah

You might recognize this Aussie-born beauty from her pivotal roles in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals but she’s so much more than the bloodsucking characters she plays. She’s a health and wellness blogger and co-creator (alongside her Aussie bestie Teresa Palmer) of Your Zen Life, and she’s the first Aussie to feature in Witchery Balance’s Women in Motion series — oh, and one half of the cutest couple in the history of loved-up couples! We spoke to Phoebe Tonkin to find out how she stays healthy and what her day on a plate looks like, exactly.

Breakfast
“It’s always varied because my shooting schedule is so erratic, but I start the day with a big glass of water and a coffee. Then I like to eat Ezekiel toast with apple butter.”

Snacks
“I like to eat hummus and carrots and rice crackers, or tahini for a snack before lunch.

“I found out I have a bunch of food allergies, one of them being to chocolate, which feels like a sick joke, but it’s not — I used to eat it every single day. Now I eat carob instead, which is fine because my mum pretended it was chocolate when I was a baby — so eating carob still feels like a treat. So in the afternoon I eat carob and maybe a green juice if I feel like I haven’t had enough salad for lunch.”

Lunch
“If I’m at work I have a chicken stir-fry. I just bought a rice cooker, which is a lot of fun, I have been making brown rice a lot!”

Dinner
“I have been very into cheese plates recently, so if it’s the weekend and I have friends over, we sit around and drink wine and eat cheese. But normally dinner is grilled salmon, steamed spinach and sweet potato. My friend Nikki taught me that the key to spinach is to steam it first, then add the olive oil and salt after, so it’s not all soggy.”

Dessert
“I’m not a huge dessert person, but I like to make apple crumbles if I have time, with coconut ice cream. My favourite recipe is Deliciously Ella’s blackberry crumble.”

Phoebe Tonkin Leads the Campaign for Witchery Balance

The ELLE cover girl is the first face for Witchery’s new activewear line.

Witchery have launched its first activewear collection, with ELLE cover girl Phoebe Tonkin as its first ‘woman in motion’ for its Witchery Balance line.

The collection taps into the current zest for ath-leisure or sport luxe looks, and is about form and function –from printed leggings to relaxed trenches.

For 26 year-old Tonkin, a resolute multi-tasker who has her own online wellness site, yourzenlife as well as a crammed acting schedule, it’s a good fit.

“I feel like I can really relate to the philosophy behind the new line because it resonates with my own lifestyle and approach to wellness – and I think so many other women will relate to it too.”

“She can wear it to Pilates then go straight to brunch with friends and still feel stylish and put together,” says Tonkin.

The collection and Tonkin’s ‘woman in motion’ profile will both go live on the site on August 20.

Phoebe Promotes Witchery Activewear

15 August '15 - Sarah

914371-d14e9820-423a-11e5-895e-ea44465fec65PHOEBE Tonkin is very healthy for a near-extinct, shapeshifting supernatural werewolf.
Of course, she’s only that on telly (she stars in HBO’s The Vampire Diaries the CW’s The Originals). In real life, Tonkin, 26, is decidedly un-undead.

A green-living, rosy-cheeked, ballet-bodied hiking fan, she co-founded the Your Zen Life blog with her actor mate Teresa Palmer.

Actually, Tonkin has just resigned from official duties there due to time constraints – Vampire The Originals films in Atlanta, and she regularly works 16-hour days.

“When we started the site almost five years ago, there weren’t lots of other health blogs,” she says. “It wasn’t so much of a business back then, as a hobby. Now we realise what an incredible thing we created and I want to allow it to flourish.”

She and Palmer still talk all the time – “I’m a sidelines supporter” – and Tonkin remains invested in the issues that drive the site. “For me, wellness doesn’t necessarily just mean food, exercise and body image,” she says. “It’s also looking after yourself spiritually, making time for family and friends, finding balance in your life. It’s being able to work hard and reach for goals, while making time to take care of yourself – mentally and physically.”

Such thinking appeals to Witchery, which has tapped Tonkin as the first of its ‘women in motion’ promoting its new Balance range of activewear.

Tonkin was the perfect choice, says Witchery’s managing director, Linda Levy, “because she is able to maintain a healthy lifestyle, while staying grounded and happy amid the often hectic and demanding world of film and TV”. The range is designed to take you from the cafe to the gym and even dinner.

Big on black and grey, with cobalt highlights, it includes leggings and crop tops in high-performance fabrics, with flat-lock seams for streamlining (and running without friction).

There are sporty tees and perforated shorts (extra airflow!) for working out, and de-constructed trenches and draped pants for going out.

“My own aesthetic is very much in line with Witchery Balance; I prefer functional and practical clothing,” says Tonkin.

“Sometimes I work all day then jump straight on a flight; I like clothes that take me places. I can wear these pieces walking with my dog Lola, and then stop somewhere on the way home and get a margarita!”
